In 2008, WPPI Energy and its members implemented cost-effective energy efficiency programs that resulted in annual energy savings of 34,600 megawatt-hours per year (MWh/yr) of electricity and 173,300 therms per year of natural gas.
Added to the electric savings achieved in previous years, the cumulative savings of these programs is 154 million kilowatt-hours per year (kWh/yr)-equivalent to the electricity used each year by about 17,700 typical homes. The environmental benefits include preventing the emission of 133,000 tons of carbon dioxide, the same as removing 23,400 cars from the road.
The 2008 programs resulted in a 6.2 megawatt (MW) demand reduction. Adding to previous years, the cumulative demand reduction is 23 MW.
