WPPI Energy members strive to maintain a diverse power supply portfolio, and renewable resources play an increasingly important role. New renewable resources include the following.
- The Barton I wind farm, located in Worth County, Iowa, began operation in April 2009. We have a 20-year agreement with an affiliate of Iberdrola Renewables USA to purchase the output from 15 wind turbines.
- The Butler Ridge wind farm in Dodge County, Wis., went online in February 2009. Through a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with an affiliate of Babcock & Brown, we will purchase the output from 13 wind turbines.
- WPPI Energy began purchasing the entire output of the refurbished John Street Hydroelectric project from member Kaukauna Utilities. Kaukauna Utilities owns and operates seven hydroelectric plants along the Fox River, which together provide approximately 22.85 megawatts (MW) of nameplate capacity and produce 150,500 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year of clean renewable energy. The John Street hydro facility was recently refurbished to increase the overall efficiency of the plant.
