Educational facilities in our member communities are served by the
Energy Management for Schools program, which helps local schools to improve their energy efficiency and save money. Efficiency measures include lowering after-hours heating temperatures, conducting lighting efficiency upgrades and using energy management and tracking software. WPPI Energy and its member utilities also provide benchmarking, construction plan reviews, equipment efficiency comparisons, energy cost-saving estimates, load monitoring, retail rate analyses and technical training.
Of the 241 private and public school buildings belonging to school organizations and districts served by our members, 143 have been entered into the ENERGY STARŪ Portfolio Manager, an online tool that allows school facility managers to monitor and reduce their energy use. To date in 2009, approximately 130 kW of demand reduction has been added to the 58 kW achieved in 2008 from completed efficiency projects identified during school building energy audits and another 314,000 kWh estimated annual energy savings was added to the 500,000 kWh in savings for 2008.
