WPPI Energy building expansion groundbreaking on August 20, 2008.

Building expansion serves as a model
In August, WPPI Energy members broke ground on a $6.9 million addition and remodel project at our Sun Prairie office and operations center. Necessitated by growth, this project also presents an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and the prudent use of energy dollars.
The updated facility is being built to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) New Construction Gold Standards for energy efficiency and sustainability. It is anticipated to be the first LEED Gold certified building in Sun Prairie, Wis.
The project incorporates numerous "green" features, including daylighting technologies, a geothermal heating and cooling system, energy efficient plumbing, LED parking lights, and a direct digital control and automation system for HVAC. To achieve sustainability, reused and recycled content building materials are being used wherever possible, including cellulose insulation made from recycled materials. The landscaping will be resource-efficient, with strategically placed shade trees and restored prairie habitat.
The updated facility is expected to meet WPPI Energy's space requirements based on a 20-year projection. The 49,705 square-foot project is scheduled for completion late in 2009.
